The Awards Ceremony opens with the sound of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra playing the familiar songs of the holiday season. The camera shot is wide, and we can see the entire stage set up in the auditorium conference hall. The backdrop behind the podium is what you might expect, burgundy and black curtains with yellow gold accents. Hanging above is a sign indicating the name of tonight's event, the 2008 End of the Year Awards. The camera zooms in on one side of the stage, and members of the audience begin clapping as Rob Belote walks out on stage. Rob waives at the crowd, garnering some mild cheers from various parts of the crowd - which contains not only the wrestlers and LEGACY employees seated at tables in the front, but also several rows of chairs containing contest winners who were lucky enough to score tickets to tonight's event. When he reaches the lecturn, Rob takes a couple notecards out of his coat pocket and sets them in front of him, and then he just looks out on the crowd, not needing his written assistance. Rob Belote: Good evening everyone and welcome to tonight's festivities, where we once again honor the various parts of LEGACY which made 2008 a year to remember. There were high points and low points, things I'm proud to say happened in my organization, and things which I'd like to forget ever happened. As you all may very well know, there was a time when I had a more "hands on" role with another organization I used to run, but a year ago, I made a resolution for 2008 which I stuck to. I decided to take a backseat, keep behind the scenes, deal with some of the things that absolutely needed my attention, but otherwise I wanted to let things take a more natural course and not force things. I did decide to once again hold a Co-Op Challenge match, just as I did some six or seven years ago, and later tonight as the awards are read, we'll find out if it was a success or not. But in 2009, I am going to continue my trend of trying to manage things as little as possible and remain behind the scenes as much as I can, so if tonight is the last time you see me for another 360 days, may your 2009 be enjoyable, and may LEGACY hold a positive place in your entertainment for the year. As Rob pauses momentarily, there's a round of polite applause amongst the crowd, garnering a nod of gratitude from LEGACY's owner. Rob Belote: I have always prided myself as a good judge of talent, and while I realize that it's not possible to have a monopoly on great competitors in this sport, I would say that LEGACY's roster continues to impress me more and more each month, and from top to bottom, I'm proud of the individuals whose pay-checks I sign every month. There are some interesting individuals whom I currently employ and a vast array of talents - from competitors who pride themselves on having flawless execution of technical moves to guys who just love to hurt other guys and see how much pain they can take - to a very special individual who is proving that truly great athletes can overcome stereotypical gender roles, I would like to ask that you all take a moment and show appreciation for the individuals who step into the LEGACY ring and give it their all in the name of competition and entertainment. Another round of applause comes from the crowd, and after letting it run its course, Rob steps back up to the microphone.
Rob Belote: Although I won't be announcing all of the awards given out tonight, I did want to be the one to hand out the first award of the evening, because in many ways I feel it could've been a difficult one to achieve. Competitors in this business rise throughout the years, learning from their mistakes and accomplishments, growing as they reach new and different heights. Those who reach the main event typically know what it takes to stay there, they know what the spotlight feels like, they know how great it is when an arena full of people are cheering for them or booing them with all their hearts, and it's easy for them to go into the gym and train for their next match because they know what they'll be missing if they don't keep up their high level of competitiveness. The camera shows X-Calibur, then Greyson Blade, then Loco Martinez and Diamond Del Carver. Rob Belote: For competitors who have yet to make it into a main event spot, they don't know what the big opportunities feel like. They might have the hunger to reach the next level, their desire for increased accomplishment might exist, but since they maybe haven't felt what it means to be on top, they don't fully understand what they're striving for. That's why often it's harder to break through to the next level all at once than it is to gradually, year after year, increase at a steady rate. Moving his head to the side of the microphone, Rob clears his throat and continues. Rob Belote: Our first award of the evening is for the Breakout Star of 2008. The voting was close, and if we would've extended the guidelines a little longer, the voting might have turned out differently, especially with the outcome on SuperCard STRIFE 46. That said, I'm extremely happy to employ both of these individuals. The runner-up for this award is also the individual who, a year ago, won the award for Brightest Potential for 2008... "Crazy Boy" Tyrone Smith! The fans applaud, and the camera shows Crazy Boy seated in the audience, looking proud. Rob Belote: The winner of this award is actually the same individual who won Breakout Star of 2007 a year ago, and although that might sound strange that a competitor could be the Breakout Star two years in a row, when you consider this person's accomplishments and compare the things he did in 2007 to what he did in 2008, there's no doubt in my mind that Issac Entragian is deserving of being considered the Breakout Star of 2008. Once the announcement is made, the camera switches over to show Entragian, whose reaction is priceless. An ENORMOUS shit-eating grin spreads across his face, and Issac rises from his chair, Elizabeth Gaunt also grinning ear from ear and getting up along with him. The albino begins to stalk his way up to the stage, passing the Agents of Destiny table and the table where Marcus Marion and Nikki Rhodes sit. His smile seems to grow wider with each step, and he makes sure to lock eyes with each person he passes. Marion. Mirage. Blade. Carver. Black. Fallen Angel. Entragian marks them all, seeming to almost mock them with nothing but his sarcastic gaze. Entragian wears a pristine white Armani suit with black pin-stripes, underneath is a custom white dress shirt, along with a thin black tie to complete his ensemble. He makes his way up the steps leading on stage, his bleached rattlesnake skin boots clicking against the linoleum. He reaches the podium with Elizabeth hot on his heels, and is handed the award from Rob Belote. He raises it upward with one pale hand, winking out at the masses, before handing it off to a jubilant Liz Gaunt. Elizabeth is looking gorgeous tonight herself, wearing a sultry black dress and a large crimson ruby resting against her throat. She hugs the award close to her breasts, batting her eyes dramatically. The Ivory Terror looms over the podium, leaning down slightly so that the microphone is close to his mouth. He doesn’t speak for a moment; he simply sweeps his long white hair back with one hand, and lets his emerald eyes trail over the familiar faces in the banquet hall. The Ivory Terror: Well, here we are! Breakout Star of the Year, yours truly. But let’s face it, is this much of a surprise? Of course not. I won this exact same award last year; I’m just that DAMN good. He grins even wider, massaging a hand covered with sterling silver rings against his neck, taking a moment to clear his throat. The Ivory Terror: So please, do forgive me if I don’t appear shocked by this announcement. A man of my stature expects recognition, and when it falls into my lap, it’s not something I consider special. Afterall, I practically carry a large portion of LEGACY on my load-bearing shoulders, so each and every one of you needs to pay his and her respects. Think of me as your golden idol, and feel free to sacrifice to me OFTEN. Most of the superstars in the crowd appear disgusted with Entragian, some openly groaning and showing their outrage. Issac accepts this as though he’s being showered with roses, taking a moment to adjust the No Limits Championship that is secured around his waist. The Ivory Terror: I suppose the general procedure is for me to thank someone for this. But to be perfectly honest, I don’t feel that anyone deserves a thank you for paying homage to a titan like me. I mean think of it like a pack mentality, the biggest and baddest wolf always feeds first and gets the best cut of meat, that’s just how it IS. That is how it will always BE. Elizabeth nods her head earnestly, patting her man on the shoulder while displaying the award for all eyes to see. The Ivory Terror: So no, I won’t be thanking anyone. Especially not our rotten LEGACY fans, which are nothing but a swarm of mosquitoes. They should NEVER be shown gratitude, because they are nothing but an irritation, and an infernal one at that. And what of my fellow LEGACY superstars, should I thank any of you? Hell no. Each and every one of you is burning with envy right now; you might as well admit it. Issac laughs, his massive chest shaking with good cheer. The Ivory Terror: Look at you all. Adam Davis looks like he’s about to fall out of his chair, that’s how HOT with jealousy he is. I see you too X-Calibur, why don’t you let some of the air out of that collar, blow off a bit of that steam, FORMER World Champion’s shouldn’t get too heated, I’m just thinking of your blood pressure is all! Entragian grins, clicking his tongue against his teeth, his mouth full of little white razor blades. Now that he’s in this position, he can’t resist taking shots at anyone and everyone he can. The Ivory Terror: I said that I won’t give out thank yous, but maybe I should give out some apologies. I’m sorry, Matt Dawson, that you weren’t good enough to win this award. It’s funny, I thought being a member of the elite would win you awards, but I guess it just makes you a freakin’ douche-bag. Crazy Boy, tough luck kiddo, how bout you go cry on Blade’s shoulder? Entragian’s hands hold a near death-grip on the sides of the podium, and he is positively LEERING out at the crowd, seeming to delight in this slice of chaos he’s dishing out. The Ivory Terror: But I have to stop myself, I’m getting carried away. I could do this all night, it’s so much FUN. But I figure I’ll take my leave for the moment, because obviously I’ll have more awards heading my way as the night wears on, that’s simply a given. So don’t think of this as a goodbye, just think of it as an “I’ll see you again REAL soon!" Issac laughs heartily, backing off from the podium and making his way backstage with Elizabeth locked onto his arm, his Breakout Star of the Year award held in one pale hand, and Rob Belote walking with them. They pass by Jimmy Yates who walks out to the lecturn wearing a black tuxedo with a gold bow-tie, getting a few whistles from members of the crowd. Jimmy Yates: I hope all those whistles were from female mouths, or else that's maybe a little uncomfortable for me. There's a bit of laughter from some of the audience, and Jimmy continues. Jimmy Yates: No, seriously, usually I don't have to face the crowd, I just have to sit behind a desk and talk about what's coming up later in the evening or analyze what's going on in the ring or try to put Bryan Harris in his place, but I'm not used to standing here, looking out amongst a sea of people. Granted I'm sure some of the wrestlers in the first few rows would have my back if anything crazy went down, but I'm hoping it doesn't come to that. Without further adieu, I should probably get to announcing the award. The laughter ripples a little bit, and then he gets down to business.
Jimmy Yates: Growing up, I've always been a huge fan of movies. As I got older, I started to really appreciate the soundtracks and scores that went along with the films I had come to enjoy, noting the real significance and emotion the notes brought to what I was watching. For a lot of people, I know the song they hear before a wrestler makes his or her way down to the ring can be a real evokative thing, so I'm here to present the award for Best Entrance Music. Jimmy slightly raises his eyebrows. Jimmy Yates: As was the case with at least one other award tonight, there was a tie in the voting for this category, but lucky enough for the winner, the tie was for second place. Neither one quite able to make it into the top spot, the reigning Tao of Valor Champion AND World Champion both tied for second place in this voting, with "C'mon C'mon" by the Von Bondies and Black Sabbath's "Iron Man" making strong opening indications that Loco Martinez and Devastation were on the way to the ring. The camera shows Devastation sitting amongst the crowd, and then switches and shows Loco Martinez. Jimmy Yates: The song that found its way to the top of our charts is a personal favorite of mine, and I hope that in the next twelve months the LEGACY management can find a way to bring Metallica to a STRIFE or a pay per view, because I'd like nothing more than to watch them play "Harvester of Sorrow" live as X-Calibur comes down to the ring. A special edited version of X-Calibur's theme song plays over the speakers, getting to the heart of the song and skipping portions of the intro. The camera shows X-Calibur in the audience, who looks pleased that his theme song won the award, but there's no real reason for him to give an acceptance speech, so he just nods at the camera. Switching back to a view of the stage, Jimmy Yates heads off as Bryan Harris passes him on the stage, barely giving Jimmy a second look as he continues to the podium. Bryan Harris: As I've told you all before, as much as LEGACY tries to book matches which are going to end up as entertaining and good competition, this is a business, and the point of a business is to make money. Now because of that, it seems only natural that Rob Belote and the other front office fellas set up a place where the fans of our organization could buy merchandise related to this company and its competitors, and I think that's just one example of a way in which LEGACY stands apart from its competitors and leads this business as the best wrestling organization there is. Bryan is forced to pause in his delivery as there is a round of applause from the entire audience. Bryan Harris: Wherever you have a list of things, someone out there is willing to put that list of things in order based on a certain criteria, so this next award is to recognize what the LEGACY fans felt was the best piece of merchandise available for purchase.
Bryan Harris: Just like with our previous award, the voting for this one also ended in a tie at the second place position. I'll preface this by saying that I own the Outer Limits - Best of No Limits volume 1 DVD, and for anyone who doesn't already own it, it's definitely worth the money, but I don't see how it ever found a way to tie for second with the unbelievably hot poster of Josephina Colbert that we're currently selling. Bryan shakes his head in confusion, and then the camera switches over to a shot of the audience where we see a grinning Josephina Colbert. Several men in the audience whistle, and then the camera switches back to Bryan Harris, who looks like he forgot what he was talking about. Bryan Harris: I'm just glad she's not a member of the broadcast team, or I might lose my professionalism. Some of the audience members laugh at this before he gets back on track. Bryan Harris: Now like I said before, the fans of LEGACY voted on this, not me, so Josie? No hard feelings between you and me? The winner of this award is the new LEGACY License plate frame, available now on LEGACY Merch. There's a round of polite applause as the item appears on camera. When it's gone, we see Alan Ducard walking out on stage. As he passes by Bryan Harris, he tells him to wait, then continues to the podium. Alan Ducard: This company would not function without the in-ring talent, but part of the reason why fans tune in to LEGACY programing is because of the ancilary figures who help the show move along and who interact with our in-ring competitors. They are the people who function not as managers, but as independent talent who affect the show in other ways through their various talents. Our next award is for LEGACY Personality of 2008.
Alan Ducard: The runner up for this award has played a vital role in the life and career of Cronos Diamante, despite the fact that few would view former World Champion Voodoo as a manager in the traditional sense, which is probably why he was not voted into the top spot. However, there is another individual who contributes to driving nearly every portion of every show through his own personal unique perspective on things, and although I don't agree with the way he views things most of the time, I do believe that multiple viewpoints on the same issue tend to help drive conversation, and so the award to LEGACY Personality of 2008, as voted by the LEGACY fans, is my colleague, Bryan Harris. The members of the audience begin clapping, and Alan Ducard turns to the side and looks at Bryan Harris, who was waiting near the edge of the stage. Surprised to hear his name, Harris slowly walks up to the podium and takes his award in hand, which resembles the two drama masks best associated to Shakespeare. After looking at the award, Bryan Harris addresses the crowd. Bryan Harris: For once, I'm a bit lost for words. I definitely didn't come up with an acceptance speech for this because honestly I thought those goofy fans were going to end up voting for somebody like Avery George or Andrew Kelley. And as much as I appreciate this award, I'd like to take my name out of the running for this award for 2009 if it means that we could be seeing more and more of Josephina Colbert, preferably through some kind of tropical photo shoot or something like that. Maybe a tour of her house or she could even get followed around with cameras for a "day in the life". The camera shows Josephina Colbert in the crowd, who appears to be almost blushing. Bryan Harris: Did I mention that I've been studying cinematography and photography in my spare time? I just want to throw that out there... I'll waive any kind of extra fee you might have to pay somebody if I could be part of one of those projects. A mild round of laughter comes from the fans. Bryan Harris: I'm certainly not kidding about any of that, but thanks again for this award. After holding the award up in front of him, Bryan Harris walks off stage alongside Alan Ducard. Landon Savage steps out through the curtain and passes the duo from the announce team and walks right up to the lecturn. Landon Savage: Ever since I was a kid, I knew I wanted to be part of this business. I was never a great athlete, so when I started seeing the impact of the great managers in the late 70's, 80's, and early 90's, I knew that might be an avenue for me. As I progressed, it made more sense for me to take a less active roll in things, much less dangerous giving my opinions from a backstage office and an announce booth than it is to get out there at ringside, but I can truly admire the people who do take the route to be a manager or valet and help their clients on to victory. Our next award is for Best Manager of 2008.
Landon Savage: The runner-up for this award did a great job in the past 12 months getting her client and life-partner to become the Breakout Star of the Year, and so I'm pleased to announce that Elizabeth Gaunt gets acknowledged as one of the top two managers of 2008. Without her guidance, who knows what kind of destruction the Albino Abomination might've caused... and there's no telling whether or not he would've become the first two-time No Limits Champion without her. The camera shows Issac Entragian seated once again in the audience, smiling with his razor-sharpened teeth looking right at Elizabeth Gaunt, who is seated next to him. The camera then cuts back to the presenter of the award. Landon Savage: He helped Domination to hold the World Tag Team Titles for the better part of the year and, in many people's mind, his hospitalization is the reason they lost the belts to El Chupacabra in the first place, here he is, the manager of the year... Trent Logan. A smile forms over Trent Logan’s face with the announcement, and The Manager of the Year stands up from between VENOM and RAGE in the midst of the crowd, and walks to the aisle as “Fear” by Disturbed plays. However, upon reaching the aisle, Trent pauses in the midst of the clapping from the crowd and motions for both members of Domination to join him. Both protest for a moment, but rather than cause any sort of scene, RAGE and VENOM make their way from their seats and join Trent in the aisle and follow him to the stage where Trent accepts his award. As both RAGE and VENOM stand behind Trent both smiling and clapping for their manager, Trent takes hold of the award which is a gold-covered microphone and clipboard stuck together with a plaque in front that reads “LEGACY Manager of the Year”. Trent looks back at both of his fighters, and then they beckon him to speak as the clapping subsides. Trent adjusts the tie of his grayish Armani, looks at his award with pride, and then speaks into the microphone. Trent Logan: You know in this business you’re judged just the way you are judged in all businesses, and that’s by your success – and judging from the championship belts that RAGE and VENOM carry to the ring, and this award I’m receiving now, this has been a very successful year for Domination. Yes I’m proud and honored to receive this award, but I want to make it abundantly clear, that Domination is a unit, and while I’ve set plans in motion, and I’ve obtained the matches, and advised them, it took RAGE and VENOM to do the job in the ring. Trent turns to look at his fighters once more with a nod before continuing and receiving some love from the crowd. Trent Logan: I have the luxury of managing the best tag team in this entire industry, and as good as I am, they make me look even better. 2008 was a banner year for Domination, and thank-you to everyone out there who recognized our efforts to become champions, and to help take the LEGACY tag team division by storm. With that final thanks, Trent Logan, with RAGE and VENOM in tow, heads off the stage along with Landon Savage, and they pass by Jimmy Yates along the way who comes out to present the next award. Jimmy Yates: As the fans of LEGACY very well know, there are plenty of ways to win a match, and each wrestler has his or her favorite move to use to get the job done. I'm here to present the sixth award of the evening, the fans' Favorite Finisher of 2008.
Jimmy Yates:A good finisher is one that can come out of nowhere, can be done on an opponent of any size or shape, but the main thing is that it has to be effective. The three moves I'm about to mention all have a way of putting a stop to the match going on in the ring and helping its executor pull out a victory. Again the fans voted a tie for second place, and this time it comes down to the current No Limits Champion and the reigning World Champion, as the runners-up for this award go to Issac Entragian for the Disembowler and to Loco Martinez for the LOCapitator. We see footage of Issac Entragian using the Disembowler, lifting someone up and crushing them on his knee, followed by a couple clips of Loco Martinez grabbing someone by the arm, pulling them close as he shoves his foot straight up into their jaw. After showing both of those competitors, the footage again turns to Jimmy Yates. Jimmy Yates: The winner of this award has been using the Killshot to win matches in the No Limits Division and in the main event with the World Title on the line, so Greyson Blade, keep up the good work! The footage shows Greyson Blade in the ring, hitting the KILLSHOT spear on a few different opponents. When the footage is done, there's a shot of Greyson Blade seated in the audience, and then we watch as Jimmy Yates passes by road agent Preston Thompkins, who makes his way to the podium. Preston Thompkins: As an older gentleman, I guess they thought it would be appropriate if I were the one to announce the biggest surprise moment of 2008 because maybe they thought you'd believe me, since the biggest surprise would've been the one to most likely cause me to lose bodily function. I'll have you know that even though I'm in my late 60's, I still only urinate on command, not letting anything shocking take the piss out of me. There's a mild round of laughter before Preston continues.
Preston Thompkins: I've been around this business for quite a while, and I'll probably be involved with it until the day that I die, and that's just fine by me. In my time in this business, I've learned that anything can happen, but as I meet more and more people as a road agent, I start to learn that, due to conflicts in personality and certain business-factors, a lot of things are unlikely. I still do get surprised though, and even though our fans are getting smarter and smarter at analyzing competitors and predicting what's going to happen based on strengths and weaknesses and personalities, they still get surprised too. The runner-up occurrence for this award is something that I was totally shocked by, but delighted by all the same. With the different things I've seen and heard, I didn't think there was any way that LEGACY could sign Diamond Del Carver to compete as part of our roster before he retires, but I sure am glad we did! The camera switches over to show a shot of Del Carver seated in the audience, and a small "Del! Del! Del! Del!" chant starts up in the back of the auditorium, the camera showing some of the fans back there who are chanting for him. When it dies down, the camera switches back to a shot of Preston Thompkins. Preston Thompkins: The winner of this award, it happened not long ago. I'll admit it, and I'm sure most of you will admit it too, that when we walked into the builing for STRIFE 45, I had no idea that I would be seeing a rematch of Loco Martinez against X-Calibur, and I was excited when I heard we'd get to see it that very night, but I definitely didn't expect to see Loco Martinez and ANARCHY ambush X-Calibur like they did, and to see Loco leave the building that night with the World Title in his hands?! Tht's easily the biggest surprise of 2008 for sure! Loco bounds up to the podium gleefully. He is dressed in a sharp looking silver suit, with a dark blue silk button down shirt, and yellow tie. He snags the award and throws it into the air triumphantly. Loco Martinez: Don't worry, former champ... We cut to a clearly unamused X-Calibur and then back to Loco. Loco Martinez: I'll take it from here. See? This award doesn't happen without ME! Myself, JT, A squared, and Sexy Rexy set forth in righting a wrong. And once again making sure THE Legacy Superstar regained his place at the top of the pile. Which is why I stand before you, not just the walking talking definition of excellence in the wrestling world, but also the standard by which each and every one of you will be measured from now until eternity. Where you will, inevitably, fall short. Loco gives a grin and a quick shrug of the shoulders. Loco Martinez: But you keep reaching Legacy! Maybe ONE day, you will reach... such... great... heights! Loco hoists his trophy in the air triumphantly with the only applause coming from John Thomas, Arch Angel, and T.Rex who are bathing Loco in a rather comedically pathetic three man standing ovation. When Loco Martinez leaves the stage with Preston Thompkins following, Alan Ducard walks out and passes by them as he heads to the podium. After giving the crowd a moment to settle themselves, Alan begins to talk about the next award. Alan Ducard: There were 24 events produced by LEGACY in 2008, and each of them contained elements which made them entertaining to watch, but only one of them can be considered the top event of 2008.
Alan Ducard: The fans and employees took to voting, a list was assembled, and another vote took place to come down to the top two events of 2008. The runner-up in this category was a show whose highlights included a four-way Ultimate X Match, a four-way Tag Team Ladder Match, a brutal match between Issac Entragianand Greyson Blade, and the match that saw X-Calibur take the World Championship from The Diabolik's Crash... Destined for Greatness 2008. There's a small round of clapping during which the camera shows X-Calibur, an unhappy Crash, and Trent Logan. The camera then switches back to Alan Ducard at the podium. Alan Ducard: That was a great event which included plenty of great matches, but it received a couple fewer votes than the winner in this category in one of the closest votes of the awards. The winner of the award for Event of 2008... the tenth LEGACY pay per view... LEGACY X! A highlight video runs, beginning with clips from Crazy Boy vs John Thomas. After we see Crazy Boy pick up the victory, portions of the match between ANARCHY and El Chupacabra run. Then the rough contest between Derek Shane and Justin Moreno appear, followed by clips from Stephen Rawlings vs Cronos Diamante, after which we see the involvement from the Entourage and a quick look at Rawlings making his speech. Quick flashes are shown from the Iron Man Match between Adam Davis and Devastation, finishing with a shot of Devastation hoisting the Tao of Valor Championship belt. Then Issac Entragian and Damien Black do battle, each using their weapons of choice, with Issac Entragian walking off with the No Limits Title still in his hand. Domination and The Diabolik do battle, and Trent Logan raises the hands of his tag team as Domination retain their championships. Greyson Blade and Crash do battle, culminating with Greyson Blade barely finding a way to make the pinfall and then roll out of the ring. The video ends after clips of footage from the epic match between X-Calibur and Loco Martinez, ending with X-Calibur hoisting the championship. When the video highlights end, the crowd claps, and Jimmy Yates comes out from backstage, heading for the podium area which is now vacated, Alan Ducard having already gone backstage. Jimmy Yates: For anyone who knows LEGACY owner Rob Belote, you know that Tag Team wrestling is something he has a passion for, so it should surprise no one that he has assembled the single best tag team division this business has ever seen. Our next award is for the top Tag Team of 2008.
From the back of the auditorium, a "DOM-IN-A-TION! *clap clap clap-clap-clap*" chant starts up. Grinning, Jimmy Yates waves it off, trying to get the fans to calm down. Jimmy Yates: Two teams have basically dominated the tag team landscape in 2008, and I don't think many people are going to be surprised by either of the top two teams of the year. The runner-up in this category won the belts 23 days into the year, and they held the belts for nearly six months. They might not be extremely popular with the fans, but they are a talented couple of guys... they are El Chupcabra. The camera switches to the audience, specifically Diego de Cardenas and Hector Rodriguez, then as we switch back to a shot of Jimmy Yates, another chant starts up just like before. Again Jimmy waits, but the chant doesn't die down. Jimmy Yates: I think it's no surprise to anyone who the winners are of this award, so let's just get to it... the Tag Team of 2008... guided by the Best Manager of 2008 Trent Logan... they are the reigning LEGACY World Tag Team Champions... "RAGE" Ben Murdock... "VENOM" Steve O'Reily... DOM-IN-ATION!! For the second time in the show, there is jubilation in the Domination camp, but this time it is RAGE and VENOM who first rise up and take to the aisle, looking rather sharp in charcoal gray suits. As “Fear” by Disturbed plays, the Champions and The Tag Team of the Year motion for their manager to accompany them to the stage as he had done for them. They arrive on stage as the clapping for the winners continues. At the microphone each fighter takes a hold of the award – a golden statue of two fighters side by side, arms folded across their chest complete with a front plaque denoting their achievement. RAGE is the first to step up to speak with a nod to Trent. RAGE: Manager of the Year? Tag Team Champions and now Tag Team of the Year? As Trent said this has been a hell of a year for Domination, and it’s because we’re driven. We have the best manager in the business guiding us, and we have it in our heads, that we have what it takes not to just be Champions, not just to be Tag Team of the Year, not just the best tag team in this business, but one of the best tag teams of all time. 2008 was just the beginning. This award, which we are honored to receive, is just the beginning. RAGE takes a step back with cheering coming from the crowd, and VENOM steps up to the microphone. VENOM: Now, you know we aren’t ones to do a lot of talking – that’s more of Trent’s gift. We’re more the kind to bust some heads and kick some ass if you catch my drift. The fans in attendance get exactly what VENOM is saying and give the big man a cheer. VENOM: However, I do want to leave everyone with a parting thought. Over the past two years we’ve grown as fighters and as a team. We came from nothing and fought our way to become Champions, taking on all comers. If we’re still learning, and we’re already Champions – already Tag Team of the Year – what do you think is going to happen when we get even better? Total Domination. With that VENOM steps back and both fighters lift up the award before taking leave of the stage area, passed by Bryan Harris who is coming out to announce the next award. A small "Bry-an! Bry-an! Bry-an!" chant begins from the excited crowd, and Harris seems a little taken aback. Bryan Harris: Is this like an aftershock? You all still have a hard-on for Domination and not know where to give your energy? I can't think of the last time I got an ovation like this, and it certainly wasn't in the Midwest. A disturbed shiver comes over Bryan Harris, and the fans start to quiet down. Bryan Harris: We just found out who the top tag team of 2008 was, and our next award is the fans' vote for the Tag Team to Watch for as we go into 2009, trying to predict who is going to rise up through the ranks to make a big splash.
Bryan Harris: The tag team competition in LEGACY continues to heat up, and I think the division is going to stay the best division of its kind in 2009. The voting took place, the votes have been tallied, and the runners-up for this award are a couple of pot-smoking thugs... the tag team known as H.g.H. - "White Boy" Joey Shepard and Conrad "Cap'n" Kirk! The duo get a good ovation for the announcement, and the camera shows the guys seated at a table amongst the crowd. When the camera switches back to Bryan Harris, he looks disappointed. Bryan Harris: Personally I could've thought of another couple of guys to be considered the runners-up, but I only got one vote, so what's a guy supposed to do, right? Anyway... the winners of this award are deserving because of the hard work and the hours of strategizing that THEY put into preparation... You'll learn to love them for what they're capable of doing... the Agents of Destiny, Mirage and Lucien Gray!! As the announcement for Tag Team to watch in 2009 is announced, Mirage stands in the audience straightening his suit and motions for a seemingly embarassed Lucien Gray to join him. The 6'9" monster stands in what has to be a suit custom tailored for a man of that size, yet he's still wearing his mask. Obviously conned into doing this by Mirage, Lucien reluctantly follows, looking so uncomfortable you'd think he was covered in kerosine. As the two make their way to the isle, Mirage stops and motions for Osamu Hayashi to follow, even though he isnt considered part of the tag team. The trio make their way toward the stage. Taking the trophy as he walks across the stage, Mirage shakes hands with the person handing it to him and looks at it as he walks toward the lecturn. Mirage: "I see the tag team in that trophy...one big guy, one little guy...I must represent the big guy..." Starting off with a light tone, Mirage hands the trophy to Lucien. Mirage: "Ever think you'd see the day Lucien Gray would wear a suit?! Neither did I." Through the audience laugher, Mirage continues. Mirage: "Took me days to talk him into doing this...I told him it's not like we'd ever win an award like this again and he agreed. So next year vote for us as much as you can." Tapping the lecturn to change the tone, Mirage looks out across the audience. Mirage: "On a more serious note...I'm not a big fan of these award ceremonys because I think the greatest reward any of us can get is in that ring...winning whatever title we're going after. That feeling aside, I also think it's important we respect it, own up to it. This one says The AoD is the tag team to watch going into 2009. We will be, that's a promise. Everyone in the industry knows that when I get into something, I want it to be extra special, no matter what it is, and no matter what the cost. This is no different. When I first came back and Rob said to me...what is it you wanna do here? I couldn't think of anything I hadn't already done. I've been at the top more than once. Wait. Tag team. Tell you want, Rob...let me find a partner...and let's do something that hasn't been done in years. Make tag team wrestling kick ass again. I think the art of tag team wrestling is dead...ignored by the best, and treated as second class by the fans and promoters. Mirage pauses for a very brief moment and then continues. Mirage: "Tag teams throughout history like Domination, Anarchy, El Chupacabra, The Hart Foundation, The Mega Powers, The Mega Bucks, The Collins Twins, The Road Warriors, Long Island Hardcore, Demolition, The Rockers, and The Agents of Destiny...have been forgotten. Lost in a sea of singles main events, ladder matches, battle royals, three ways, four ways...twenty ways, but rarely ever two tag teams bringing down the house. I ask what would be wrong with a Hell in a Cell Tag Match for the world titles?! What would be wrong with an iron man tag match?! What are we afraid of? Hurting the feelings of the singles guys because they gotta share the spotlight with champions of an equal level?!" Mirage shakes his head. Mirage: "It's time tag team wrestling shape up and make the world notice us again, and the AoD is gonna lead the charge. The Agents of Destiny stand together, tag team or singles...doesn't matter. We're gonna get bigger...and we're gonna get better. The time has come for us to step up. Not to stand below the world champion and look up as if he's #1, but to stand beside him, as equals. Thank you very much." Mirage, Lucien Gray, Osamu Hayashi and Bryan Harris all head backstage. Road Agent Carter Franklin passes by them, dressed in a sharp silver suit with a purple shirt underneath with an Asian collar. He gets to the podium and waves to the crowd before addressing them.Carter Franklin: What's up, y'all? I'm Carter Franklin, one of LEGACY's road agents, and y'all might not know me, but I'm one of the crew that helps things keep moving backstage as well as dealing with things with the wrestlers. I may not be on camera too much, but I've been around at just about all the shows LEGACY's ever had, including all the shows in 2008. I've seen plenty of competitors get into the ring, and I'm getting to the point where I have a pretty good idea of who is going to do well inside the squared circle. After all the votes were tallied for the award for Who to Watch in 2009, it turns out that the people I voted for came in first and second, so the front office decided I should announce the award.
Carter Franklin: The voting for second place was yet again all tied up when things were tallied, and although I only voted for one of these fellas, I can see how both of them could have great years in 2009. One of them has been in LEGACY for quite a while, the other one is relatively new. The runners-up for "Who to Watch in 2009" are "Crazy Boy" Tyrone Smith and "The Cult Leader" Ethan Leers. Both of the individuals are shown in their respective seats amongst the crowd Crazy Boy getting a decent ovation from the fans, and the majority of the crowd boos when Ethan Leers is shown. The view goes back to Carter Franklin. Carter Franklin: The winner of this award is a guy who I thought had tremendous potential during his first run with LEGACY, and now that he's back, I'm not at all surprised that he's having some success, and I fully expect he'll keep making strides towards the top. Y'all know him, ya love him, and you probably wish you had his girlfriend... Who to Watch in 2009? HERBERT J MOXLEY!! Herb Moxley rises from his seat and approaches the stage a close up of his face shows an incredulous look. He wears a bow tie and suspenders along with his traditional Hawaiin shirt – spruced up for the occasion even more so with his normally spiked hair slicked back. He accepts the award and approaches the podium waiting a brief moment for applause to die down. Moxley: Thank you. Who to watch in 2009? I’ll try to live up to the expectation… Herb looks over the trophy that displays a wrestler standing on top of a pedestal, looking off into the distance in a very Super Hero type pose before addressing the mic again. Moxley: I’ll be brief – I just want to thank three people… First, Rob Belote for keeping the dream alive and assembling the ultimate pool of talent that is the LEGACY roster - and then subsequently letting me return without making me first wash his car. Second, to my darling Jen X who did not support my return to wrestling one iota. -- And for those not familiar -– an iota is an arbitrary measurement meant to represent a VERY small amount, and she wanted me to come back to wrestling zero iotas. So, Jen, thanks for sticking with me anyway, pookie-cakes. A significant portion of the crowd chuckles. Moxley: And finally I want to thank my old friend Loco Martinez without whom I may have looked elsewhere to continue my journey in this great sport. Thanks, dudeman, even in spite of your recent… soul transplant… Here’s hoping you pull your head out of your A- *he coughs* trophy case. The crowd chuckles at this and Herb responds with a half hearted smile. He holds up the award and waves as the audience applause once last time before walking off stage alongside road agent Carter Franklin, who pats him on the back as they head backstage. Referee Klinton Porter, wearing a white suit with a black shirt and white tie walks out, passing Carter and Herb, and makes his way up to the podium. Klinton Porter: As LEGACY's senior referee, I know a little something about great matches, and with all the spectacularly talented individuals on the roster, everyone's got a list of matches that they just can't wait to see. The following are the top two matches that voters hope to see in 2009.
Klinton Porter: The runner up match for this award matches two former LEGACY World Champions against each other in a match that, personally, I don't believe we've seen in LEGACY. They are both cornerstones of this organization, so it's no surprise that the fans want to see "The Outlaw" Greyson Blade take on the 2008 Hawkins Memorial Tournament winner... X-Calibur!! The footage switches over to show Greyson Blade, and then X-Calibur, both individuals appear to be interested in competing in that match. We then switch back to the podium. Klinton Porter: That'd be a great match, and with the way things are going, I think it's pretty obvious that those two guys will meet up sooner or later, but that wasn't the top vote getter. In what appears to be a plea to the front office, the fans have spoken, and they would like to see "Diamond" Del Carver step into the ring with two-time LEGACY World Champion Marcus Marion! The camera shows both of those individuals, and certainly Del Carver looks more intrigued by it than Marcus Marion does. When we return to a view of the stage, Klinton Porter is walking off and is replaced by Landon Savage. Landon Savage: Next up is an award that frankly I'm proud to be introducing, because I don't see things as black-and-white as a lot of you do, and although the winner of the next award is considered the Most Hated roster member of 2008, and these guys have got a lot of talent and should be rewarded for it.
Landon Savage: The top two vote-getters, in my opinion, could easily have been voted in either order, but the fact that one of them had a portion of 2008 where you liked him probably gives a reason why he's the runner-up. He is the number two vote getter for this award and he is the CURRENT World Champion... he is Loco... Marrrrtinez! There's quite a bit of booing from the fans in the back, and as the camera shows Loco, he looks like he's going to jump up out of his seat to storm back there, but then he just sits down and starts laughing. Landon Savage: The winner of this award has been nearly dominant in 2008, having overcome the over-whelming majority of the opponents he has faced. He has been called evil incarnate and has no apologies for what he has done. He is the CURRENT No Limits Champion... he is the "Albino Abomination"... the "Ivory Terror"... ISSAC... Entragian!! Once the winner is announced the cameras once more pinpoint Entragian, and the albino smirks and mouths “Who me?” before rising from his chair while buttoning his suit jacket. This time Elizabeth stays at the table, clapping for her man as he makes his way back up to the stage. Issac struts towards the podium with “Don’t Fear the Reaper” playing in the banquet hall, his eyes bright and malicious. As the music cuts out, he leans over and speaks into the microphone for the second time this evening, his voice just as chilling and dark as ever. The Ivory Terror: I’m BACK! Did you miss me? I’m assuming you didn’t, since I’m oh so “hateable.” Why else would I have won this award, Most Hated of 2008? That’s number two for me so far, hey Martinez, I might have to borrow your crappy trophy case before the night is out, gotta get these babies home somehow! A shot of Loco Martinez out in the crowd scowling. Entragian picks up the award that was handed off to him, examining it for a moment. He raises his eyebrows, turning his attention back to the masses. The Ivory Terror: Some people might take this as an insult, but I take it as a compliment. To know that people hate me as much as I hate them is the only thing that allows me get to sleep at night! I take comfort in that fact. The only person I try to impress is ME, the only person I car about is ME, and the rest of you can rot in hell for all I care. That grin on his face is just as evil as they come; it’s like seeing Satan crawl up out of Hell to accept an award. The Ivory Terror: I’d like to say a few choice words this time around, a little inspirational piece to start 2009 off on the right foot. Bear with me.” Entragian clears his throat, taking from one of his jacket’s inner pockets a small piece of folded up paper. He unfolds this sheet, and lays it flat on the podium, also pausing for a moment to straighten his tie. The Ivory Terror: These are chaotic times. LEGACY is in a state of unrest. A downward spiral has taken over, and nothing is exempt from being sucked into the void. We watch as our cowardly World Champion cavorts about, ruffling his feathers while his pack of wild dogs follows every order he lays down. We bear witness to men like Marion and Rawlings, prancing around like roosters, pecking at the scraps of our heroes.” A pause, Issac reading from a new sheet. The Ivory Terror: When the only hope in sight falls on the shoulders of heroes who are about as unstable as a tent during hurricane season. A grizzled ancient like Carver, who is nothing more than a skeleton covered in a layer of wrinkled and mummified flesh. Men like Diamante, who is crazier than a fox with rabies. Everywhere we look, there is so much darkness, and so little hope left…” Entragian looks up, making eye contact with certain individuals out in the crowd. His expression is sincere, but those eyes burn with sarcasm. The Ivory Terror: But there is a solitary candle that glows in the blackness. I am that candle. I am the beacon of light that keeps LEGACY from falling into an endless abyss. I am stability when there is none to be had; I am YOUR one shred of hope for a brave new world. And be certain of one thing, LEGACY, I will remake our world in MY image.” Issac looks up, nodding his head, his face looking momentarily somber. But the smile creeps back just as quick as it left, his pale face alighting with it. The Ivory Terror: Thank you for your hatred. Now, please feel free to applaud.” Entragian steps away from the podium and takes a very gracious bow, then makes his way off stage, followed a few feet behind by Landon Savage, who is trying to avoid getting too close to Issac Entragian, who quite frankly scares him. They pass by Intern Avery George, who gets a decent ovation from the fans as he walks up to the podium. He looks slightly embarrassed, but he waves to the crowd, then starts his job. Avery George: I am proud to announce the award for Most Loved of 2008, because unlike some people who I won't name, my priorities aren't screwed up, and I do choose to appreciate guys who can not only wrestle well, but who choose to be nice guys and nice to people around them. The crowd laughs a little bit at the Landon Savage dig by Avery George.
Avery George: Both of these guys are great, both of these guys have an important place in LEGACY history, and both of them are respectful in how they conduct their business, which makes them loved by the fans. The runner up for this award is a man who accomplished quite a bit in 2008 by bringing home two different championships, putting down two of the more hated guys in LEGACY in the process, not to mention the fact that he is the 2008 Hawkins Memorial Tournament winner. The runner-up for Most Loved of 2008 is none other than X-Calibur. The camera shows X-Calibur, who motions slightly in acknowledgement of some mild cheers, and then we go back to the podium and Avery George. Avery George: The winner of this award might not have won as many titles as X-Calibur in 2008, but the fans were just as happy to get behind him as he faced one of the more evil guys to step foot in a LEGACY ring in some BRUTAL matches. The winner of Most Loved of 2008 is "The Outlaw" Greyson Blade! The announcement had barely been made, and the capacity award’s show crowd goes absolutely crazy for The Outlaw. Even though “Outlaw Torn” by Metallica plays through the venue, it has stiff competition from the cheering of the crowd. After a moment, The Outlaw rises from his seat – dressed in a sleek, black suit with red shirt and golden tie. Greyson walks to the stage, and then standing at the microphone he takes hold of his award, which is a statue of two rows of three cheering fans with a plaque and inscription denoting his honor. As his music dies, a “Blade” chant is heard coming from the fans in attendance. The Outlaw stands for a moment in silence, looking all across the venue, taking in the moment. He looks down at the award, reading his name and the inscription, and then finally raises his head to speak. The Outlaw: You know given the kind of amazing responses you’ve given me night in and night out ever since I helped to open LEGACY’s doors you would think that I would have at least thought it possible that I could be standing here on this stage right now accepting this award. I’ll confess, however, that no matter the accomplishments, no matter the awards, I don’t see myself as a hero or as something bigger than life. I have seen and will always see myself as just a fighter looking to be the very best at what I do, seeking the next challenge, desiring to become a champion. There is a quiet intensity in The Outlaw’s voice as he embraces the moment, taking the opportunity to speak to the fans about something a little different, not his usual promises about what he’s going to do about the latest unfortunate s.o.b. to step into the ring with him. The “Blade” chant picks up again, and Greyson nods in acknowledgment before continuing. The Outlaw: Now, even though I don’t myself as you, the fans, see me as evidenced by this award, I know that every time I walk to that ring, and I hear those cheers, and I hear you chanting my name, that I have your respect. I want you to know that you have mine. Every time I walk to that ring I give everything I have to give – my blood, my sweat, every ounce of my being I leave in that ring, and I will never do myself or you the disservice of giving any less. You’ve shown me your appreciation every time I head to that ring, and tonight in the form of this award. I will continue to show you mine, Killshot after Killshot, as I strive to once again become World Champion. Thank-you and … Case Closed. With that the crowd showers The Outlaw with adulation once more as he steps back from the microphone and leaves the stage with Intern Avery George following right behind him. Backstage reporter Andrew Kelley passes by the duo and walks up to the podium. Andrew Kelley: Many battles were fought over the past year, and some of them directly caused future battles to be fought. I'm here to announce the Feud of the Year for 2008.
Andrew Kelley: There were plenty of great wars waged over the past 12 months, and I tried my best to avoid being collateral damage backstage when things didn't remain contained in the ring. Though there were many feuds which could be honored here tonight, only two of them will have that distinction. The runner-up for this award is a feud that hasn't spanned as much time as some of the other nominees, but it has all the elements of combustibility that make for some great entertainment. Two highly competitive and talented wrestlers, along with high stakes... the runner-up for this award is the feud between Loco Martinez and X-Calibur. In the audience, you can see that the tensions are still very high between Loco Martinez and X-Calibur as we see both of their faces on camera before returning to a shot of Andrew Kelley. Andrew Kelley: In no surprise to me, the winner of this award is a feud that was waged over the course of three tremendously brutal and huge matches between the Most Loved and Most Hated competitors of the year, it was the battle between "The Outlaw" Greyson Blade and "The Ivory Terror" Issac Entragian!! The announcement is made for the winners of feud of the year and the lights in the banquet hall suddenly dim. The cameras transition and focus onto the large video screen on the wall behind the stage area. The screen comes to live and a highlight video begins to play, highlighting the vicious, unrelenting war that waged for over five months of 2008. Fuel’s “Won’t Back Down” provides the music for this piece, and the footage begins to roll almost immediately. The song kicks in, followed by an excerpt of Entragian & Blade talking to each other in the ring. “I know what darkness means. And the void you left for me.” The Outlaw: “It’s all on the line for you Issac. It’s all on the line in the biggest match of your career. And I want you to ask yourself the same question you asked me, are you ready, Issac?” A moment of silence. The Outlaw: “I asked you a question Entragian. Are you f*cking ready?? Blade’s voice burns with intensity, and Issac answers it with a venomous roar, something almost primal. The Ivory Terror: I AM READY! “The isolation stings, so I think it wants to bleed.” A shot of Entragian & Blade standing in the ring, nose to nose, jaw jacking at each other like two generals on the battlefield. Spittle flies from the razor-tipped mouth of Issac, and Greyson’s eyes are like living fire. “The echoes in my brain. Of the things you said to me.” Issac and Blade tearing into each other, fists flying, their hatred for one another on full display. Blade smacking his shoulder into Issac’s gut over and over again against one of the turnbuckles, Entragian BLASTING Greyson on the jaw with an uppercut strike from “The Slayer.” “You took my everything. Now I’m coming for you!” The legend known as Greyson Blade brings the pain STRAIGHT to Issac. Blade catching Issac coming off the top rope, looking for his flying clothesline, only to EAT a KILLSHOT right to the gut. “I won’t back down. I will not bow.” Greyson taking it to Issac out in the parking lot, smashing the albino into the car door of a sedan and beating him mercilessly. Issac is left a bloody heap, his face a crimson mask pressed up against the car door. “I’ve come to bring you hell. I CAN’T forget.” Entragian during his sideshow promo, belittling the legend and showing clips from Greyson’s career on a plasma screen in the middle of the ring. Blade races onto the scene, DRILLING Issac in the gut with a Killshot that drives him clean through the plasma television, glass exploding everywhere. “Things you did. I’ve come to bring you Hell.” Blade stands triumphant over Entragian following their cell match for the No Limits Championship, having choked the demon out. “The shadows that you see. In the places that you sleep.” The monster known is Issac Entragian RIPS into Greyson Blade without even a shred of mercy. Issac smashes into Blade backstage like a freight train, tossing him head first into a concrete wall. Entragian pelts Greyson with a bull whip, whipping him for all he’s worth. “Are memories of me. Better pray your soul to keep.” Entragian flings Greyson off his shoulders for The Disemboweler, but instead of landing on Issac’s knee Blade is crushed into a steel chair that Issac set up. A shot of Issac tombstoning Blade in the cell, his neck awkwardly twisting to the side. “The truth behind your eyes. You know that place you never see.” Greyson attempting to Killshot Issac through a table, but Issac snaps him up into a suplex predicament and sends Blade through a table right along with him. The infamous shot of The Ivory Terror BITING into Greyson’s shoulder, the legend screaming in pain. “Your darkest little lies are coming for you!” Entragian stands triumphant over Blade in their No Limits Match, having dispatched The Outlaw with “Spinal Doom.” An evil grin is plastered across the great white demon’s face. “All the scars that never heal.” Blade smacking Entragian with a kendo stick over and over again. Entragian snaps out with a bull whip, locking it around Greyson’s throat and yanking him into a full rotation. Greyson with the KILLSHOT. Issac with THE DISEMBOWELER. “All the wounds that will not seal.” Both men receiving medical treatment for their various injuries. Greyson nursing his ribs, Issac looking at the jagged scar below his eye in a mirror. But despite these wounds, both men DO NOT YIELD. “I will not forget the day.” Greyson and Issac brawling through a casino, security swarming the area to try and get things under control. Greyson with the No Limits Championship, Issac with the No Limits Championship. “These memories never fall.” Entragian sitting in the middle of the ring on his throne of jagged rust, and Greyson is right there, their eyes locked on each other. The moment is tense, but despite all the pain, the torture, the agony, there’s almost like a bizarre form of respect shared between them in the end. CUT FEED. The video reaches its conclusion, and as the lights turn back on we see that both Entragian & Blade are already on stage, and both men have their hands locked around a portion of the “Feud of the Year” award. They’re almost nose to nose, and you can tell that old animosity remains, just waiting for the right spark to reignite. The Ivory Terror: “Now wasn’t that beautiful? Such bittersweet memories. But now the time for reliving the past is done, so I’ll just take this and be on my way. Go ahead and give it to me Blade, don’t make me take it. After all, I've already taken the No Limits Championship from you, and I'm sure you don't want history to repeat itself in front of all of our adoring fellow superstars." Entragian chuckles, pulling on the award so that he can add it to his night's "collection." The Outlaw’s eyes never leave Entragain as Blade’s grip tightens around his half of the award. The Outlaw: Cling to that victory Issac, because it took you five months of failure, five months of hell for you to put on the performance of your career to beat me. Cling to that belt because you never know when my rematch may be signed, sealed, and delivered. For now we are traveling separate paths, but someday Issac, we will meet again and I plan on adding to my winning record against you. Until then, keep this award visible as will I, as an omnipresent, reminder of the hell that you’ve experienced, but also of the hell to come. With that The Outlaw rips his half of the award away, and there’s a ghastly sound as each man is left with half of a gold statue, with each half encompassing an enraged fighter, with three staff members in front of each one such that when put together it would appear as if the staff were holding the two enemies back from tearing each other to shreds. The Outlaw steps back as Issac smiles to reveal a mouth full of razors, and licks his lips at the prospect of their future in-ring meeting, and Fuel’s “Won’t Back Down” plays as both fighters head backstage, with the presenter walking between them to make sure they don't get physical on the way. They are passed by Alan Ducard, who heads to the microphone to make the next announcement. Alan Ducard: With over twenty shows having taken place in 2008, there were over 100 matches that went on in a LEGACY ring, and narrowing down that list to the single best match was a daunting task, but the votes are in and I'm pleased to announce the top two.
Alan Ducard: The runner up in this category is a match like no other, having happened only once before in the history of this business, seven years ago. At Glimmer of Hope, 15 men came to the ring with the opportunity to walk away with the gold in the chance of a lifetime... the runner-up for Match of the Year is the Co-Op Challenge. The video screens begin to show highlights from the Co-Op Challenge. We see John Thomas and Rocky Stellar, Devastation and Gryffin Anselm, Justin Moreno, Crazy Boy, Loco Martinez, X-Calibur, and Crash. When the video ends, we go back to a shot of Alan Ducard, who waits as the clapping dies down. Alan Ducard: I've called quite a few matches since arriving here in LEGACY, and I was pleased to be on the microphone several weeks ago when the winning match transpired, as it is a match that I won't soon forget. The winner of Match of the Year for 2008 is the World Title Match between Loco Martinez and X-Calibur from the LEGACY X pay per view! The brutal shots just after the match opens. X-Calibur with a running knee to the back of the head. Loco with a Capoeira kick, then a corkscrew legdrop. X-Calibur with a sit-down powerbomb. Loco hits the X-Terminator. X-Calibur with a cliffhanger DDT. X-Calibur locks in the sharpshooter, but Loco refuses to tap. X-Calibur avoids a DDT and hits a spinebuster. X-Calibur hits the Hang Time Elbow. Loco goes for the LOCapitator, but X-Calibur turns it into a pinfall attempt. Loco with a double-knee facebreaker. X-Calibur goes for a leaping splash in the corner, but Loco barely slips out of the way. Loco hits the Happiness moonsault. X-Calibur hits the X-Terminator, thenraises the belt after a successful title defense. When the video stops playing, we see that Alan Ducard is not around, but for the second time of the night Rob Belote walks out onto the stage, headed for the podium. Rob Belote: For the final award of the night, we recognize the individual who the fans voted as the Wrestler of the Year, and as the owner of this organization, I thought it would only be fitting that I should come out here and be the one who personally hands out this award.
Rob Belote: The voting for this next award was extremely tight, but at the end, a handfull of votes seperated the number one vote getter from the fourth highest vote getter. For anyone who didn't vote for these awards? Shame on you, because everyone's votes matter, and your opinion could've swayed a number of the different winners tonight, most notably the most prestigeous category of these ceremonies, the Wrestler of the Year. The camera shows several faces amongst the crowd, all of whom seem very interested to hear the results of this final category's voting. Rob Belote: Holding the runner-up spot for this category, he certainly had a huge impact on LEGACY in 2008, both as a fan favorite and as a guy whose antics the fans greatly disliked. I've known him for quite a while, he's a fantastic talent and I'm proud to have him on my roster, no matter how he conducts his business, because he always provides for endless entertainment. He is the current World Champion... Loco Martinez. The camera shows Loco Martinez, John Thomas, Anastasia Ewing, and the members of ANARCHY. None of them looks happy to hear that they came in second place. The camera then moves back in on Rob Belote standing at the podium. Rob Belote: I know many of you out there are sitting in your seats, wondering who could've won this award, as there are at least three very deserving candidates, but in th end, the vote went the way of the most accomplished individual of 2008, the individual who won the most championships this year in LEGACY, not to mention the fact that he was the winner of a tournament which I am proud to hold each year in honor of the great Dave Hawkins... he is none other than X-Calibur. X-Calibur nods his head, smirking. Almost like he expected it, he got up from his seat and began heading towards the stage. With the crowd watching, applauding, roaring even, the former World Champion looked out at the sea of devoted LEGIZENS and breathed a fresh of breath air; since having his title stolen from him in the fashion it was, it was the first time he’d been able to do that. Step by step, he progressed up to the stage and podium. He could hear Loco, John Thomas, and Anarchy making their jokes. Making their snide comments. Soothing the bruises of their own misguided souls by waving around a World Championship that didn’t belong in their hands. Looking out into the capacity crowd, his peers, and the personnel that has helped make a difference in LEGACY each and every day since its inception, X-Calibur cleared his throat and spoke directly into the microphone. X-Calibur: Wow... uh, thanks. I... I didn’t really expect to win this one to be honest with you. There are so many great wrestlers in LEGACY that... well, that I can’t imagine anyone just picking one individual. Between Adam Davis and Devastation showing everyone what being a true Tao of Valor Champion means, and Greyson Blade and Issac En... uh, en... en-something, I didn’t really believe that I’d even come close to touching this award. I thought with my recent title lost I’d just be cast aside and forgotten like an unexpected disappointment.. He tries to hold back a smirk, but ultimately fails. X-Calibur: Alright. You got me. I can’t fool any of you, can I? The audience laughs, as most of them are still applauding him winning the biggest award of the year. X-Calibur: Yeah... so, as you all know, 2008 marked the year that I became LEGACY World Champion. Ever since I signed with LEGACY back in 2007, en route, I’ve battled a myriad of dangerous foes. Up and comers. Veterans. Idiots. Tools. Inspiring minds. Technical geniuses. Brawlers. Second generation snots. All distinctly different on the surface, but collectively, all have shared one common legitimacy in their work. They’re all foes who tried to rip me limb from limb at every given opportunity... and if it wasn’t for these undisciplined jack asses, these brilliant war-weathered souls, these waves of the future, these all-inheriting prima donnas, all of these competitors trying to be big shots and throwing what they think is “weight” around, I probably would’ve been holding this very award early last year. So lets all reflect for a minute, shall we? X-Calibur pauses. Looking out at the expecting crowd, X-Calibur smirks widely. For a fleeting moment, his eyes locked onto the golden faceplate of the World Championship that Loco Martinez flaunted with torturous intent. X-Calibur: Greg Allocca... wherever that f***ing nutcase is, damn near did what no other man has ever been able to do, (Looks directly in Loco’s direction), EVER... and that’s stopped me dead in my tracks. Which, by the way, (Looking out at the audience, pointing his finger accusingly), THANKS for forgetting our Ring of Fire match. I only suffered second degree burns trying to give you all the most innovative match you’d ever witness. He shakes his head with much disappointment, but moves on hastily. One grown man drunk out of his in the upper row shouts with cupped hands, “I love you Greg!”. X-Calibur: Moving on... I battled the perennial main event shadow that is John Thomas. (BOOOOOOO ). Yeah, I know, he’s a douchebag. A big one. I mean, he’s practically filled to the brim with bloody rags. In fact... you know what? That should be his official crowd chant from now on. No, seriously. Whenever John Thomas walks out to the ring, shows up on a monitor, grabs a cup of coffee, eats a tofu sandwich, clubs a baby seal, or ejaculates prematurely in his khaki colored Carhartt’s... I want you all to do one thing. No matter where you’re sitting. No matter where you’re standing. No matter who’s around you... I want you to shout something. I want you to shout... “douchebag”. Say it with me now. Dooooosh-baaaaaaag... dooooosh-baaaaaaag... dooooosh-baaaaaaag. Almost as if on cue, the crowd explodes into a giant “DOOOOOOOSH-BAAAAAAAAG DOOOOOOOSH-BAAAAAAAAG ” chant. X-Calibur: Yeah, just like that. Exactly like that, even... good stuff. John Thomas looks absolutely livid at X-Calibur, as the audience continues this derogatory chant. Breaking through this chant, X-Calibur manages to continue. X-Calibur: Then of course there’s those wanna-be greaseball guinea bastard sons of bitches in the Diabolik. Part of me realizes that I owe this award in part to Crash, because it was his title reign that you all really REALLY wanted someone to end, and when I did? Yeah, I felt the love from all corners of that arena. The look on X-Calibur's face changes as he continues, now with more of a look of reverence. X-Calibur: And who, besides the wonderful voters, can forget the four tough as nails competitors in the Hawkins Memorial. Moreno. Rawlings. Shane. Crash. Okay... two plus a little show filler, but still. With it being in memoriam of Dave Hawkins’ career as well as a thoroughfare to my destiny, I felt they should’ve been at least mentioned in passing. Some of the crowd claps at this mention, and X-Calibur continues on. X-Calibur: There’s been a lot of names trying to take me down over the last couple of years. A lot... of names. But you know what? (Looks directly at Loco.) I’m still here... (Looks at John Thomas.)... and I’m still standing. (Looks at each member of Anarchy.). Despite having the Co-Op Challenge taken from me... despite having my tokens taken from me... despite having the World Title taken from me... despite having my dignity and pride taken from me... I am still here. I am still breathing. I am still... me. I am still X-Calibur, the meanest, coldest, baddest motherf***er that ever laced up a pair of boots. And at the end of the day, I am STILL the BEST f***ing wrestler this business has ever seen. (Holds up his award for a moment.) One way or another. Looking at the award for a moment, taking in the engravings and intricate design patterns on the black base, he then switches his glance out towards the audience. X-Calibur: I’m just glad the voters finally caught on. Turning back from the podium, “Harvester of Sorrow” begins blaring through the ceremonial halls, echoing out into the people holding tickets for the show in the nosebleed seats. Some of the wrestlers seem genuinely stunned at X-Calibur’s stern and ever-so unyielding words, while others are simply applaud the 2008 Wrestler of the Year. |
